UN Special Rapporteur Raquel Rolnik on the Right to Adequate Housing listening to Jang Woo Nam
From Nov. 2nd thru 4th United Nations Special Rapporteur Raquel Rolnik on the Right to Adequate Housing visited Los Angeles and the housing advocates greeted her and helped her on her tour of Los Angeles and its housing. We’ve helped her so that she can write an accurate account of human rights violations in Los Angeles housing for her full report to the United Nations’ Human Rights commission in March of 2010. KIWA participated from the preparation process, 1st day morning presentation, Town Hall meeting, and the site visit of Koreatown and the drive by of 2 sites that KIWA is working on Oriental Mission Church and the Manhattan place illegal conversion. KIWA Organizer Jang Woo Nam gave presentation with other housing advocates on loss of housing trough demolitions, condo-conversions, and eviction, during the morning introductions on the first day of the Rapporteur’s visit. KIWA drummers drummed while the slide show of KIWA Intro was showing on the walls behind during the creative testimonies part of the program of the Town Hall with the Rapporteur. Our tenant leaders Masako Mochizuki, and Mr. Seung Jong Bong gave a heart felt testimonies on the bus of the tour.
